The first printed appearance of the "French toast" was in 1871. The food came from France, where it was called "perdu pain" or "lost bread". The bread used was usually old bread, which would otherwise have been "lost." The tradition was continued in Cajun and Creole cooking, where the Prerdu Pain is a classic breakfast dish.
You can place your French bread with a little vanilla or cinnamon, bake it in the oven like a bread pudding or wrap it around the sausages, but the basic ingredients are constant: bread, milk and eggs.

Cinnamon French toast
This version is made with a whole egg and two egg whites, so it is lighter than the typical French toast. Cinnamon and a nutmeg leaf spice up this dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve with maple syrup, sorghum, or cane syrup.

French pumpkin toast with spiced cider syrup
The spices and pumpkin preserved in the egg dough make this French toast very moist and dropped. This is a great choice for breakfast in October and November, and the apple cider syrup is great!
