The French electro music duo Daft Punk, founded in 1993, has ended its collaboration, their press secretary confirmed to AFP on Monday, after the publication of a video on YouTube.
Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo announced their parting with a video entitled "Epilogue", an eight-minute video featuring scenes from their 2008 film Electroma.
Bangalter and De Homem-Christo met in the 1980s at a school in Paris and soon began composing music. In 1992, they formed a rock band, Darlin ', inspired by the Beach Boys' eponymous song, along with Laurent Brancowitz, and released a song that received negative reviews. Melody Maker described it as "daft punky thrash". They turned the negative review into the name of what was to become one of the most popular electro bands. Brancowitz left the group and formed Phoenix.
The French duo released four studio albums between 1997 and 2013. The last album, released after an eight-year hiatus, was "Random Access Memories", which features the single "Get Lucky" and which been certified platinum.
