Cheaper and easier to keep - many have put their hopes in AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine. However, doubts followed about the effectiveness of the serum for the elderly and in the case of mutations.
The AZD1222 vaccine was developed by a team at Oxford University together with the pharmaceutical concern AstraZeneca. The research team includes specialists from the Jenner Institute and the Oxford Vaccine Group.
The vaccine is a so-called vector vaccine. According to the Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI) in Germany, the vaccine is based on chimpanzee cold viruses, which are harmless to humans. These so-called adeno-virus cold viruses have been modified to contain the gene with the plan to produce an optimized coronavirus surface protein (SARS-CoV-2 spike protein).
After vaccination, the vaccine virus enters several human cells. They use the gene to produce the spike protein. The immune system then recognizes this as a foreign body and reacts by forming antibodies and T cells, which ideally protect against Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus infection.
Many countries are beginning to reject the Astrazeneca vaccine, which is why Bemorepanda has collected several memes.
