the-worlds-last-white-giraffes-were-killed-in-kenya

Kenya’s only female white giraffe and its 7-months-old calf have been killed by poachers in Kenya, this rare animals are found nowhere else in the world.

Their alabaster colour is caused not by albinism but a condition known as leucism, which means they continue to produce dark pigment in their soft tissue, giving them dark eyes.

The bodies of the two giraffes were found “in a skeletal state after being killed by armed poachers” in Garissa in eastern Kenya, the Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy said in a statement.

The dead female giraffe gave birth to two calf’s, that’s a miracle that there is one remaining white giraffe alive – a lone male, born by the same slaughtered female, the conservancy said.

Mohammed Ahmednoor, the manager of the Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy in northeastern Kenya, where the giraffes lived, said that rangers had confirmed their deaths and that there were photographs of the skeletal remains.

Conservationists estimated from the state of the carcasses that the animals had been killed four months ago. The Kenya Wildlife Service said it was investigating the killings.
