On February 4, 2022, the opening ceremony of the 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing will take place. In total, the 2022 Olympics will last a little more than 2 weeks: from February 4 to February 20.
Beijing is the first city in the history of the Olympic Games to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics. The Chinese capital hosted the 2008 Summer Olympics. The opening ceremony of the 2022 Olympics will be held at the Beijing National Stadium "Bird's Nest". This is a multifunctional sports complex, which was created for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
In December 2017, the official logo of the 2022 Olympics was presented, which was called the "winter dream". The main part of the logo is a twisting ribbon. It symbolizes the mountain ranges of China, as well as sports facilities: mountain slopes, skating rinks.
In Beijing, athletes will compete for medals in the following sports:
- ski biathlon;
- ski race;
- ski jumping;
- figure skating;
- short track.
What is unique about the 2022 Olympics
The 2022 Olympics in Beijing has its own characteristics. Firstly, it will be held just six months after the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The fact is that they were postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic and in fact they took place in the summer of 2021. Therefore, instead of the usual break of a year and a half between the winter and summer Olympics, there are only six months.
Secondly, a number of countries around the world have announced a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. The official reason for the boycott is the violation of human rights in Xinjiang province. As of the end of December 2021, 10 countries around the world have announced a boycott of the Olympic Games in China, including the traditional leaders of the competitions Canada, the United States, and Great Britain. Ukraine has not yet joined the boycott, so Ukrainian athletes will take part in the competition. As for the participation in the 2022 Olympics of athletes from countries that have announced a boycott, there is no clarity on this issue yet. The National Olympic Committee of Ukraine noted that all athletes are preparing to participate in the competition, and the announced boycott is diplomatic. That is, official representatives of countries that have declared a boycott of China will not go to Beijing 2022, while there is no ban for athletes to participate in the Olympic Games.
So, from February 4 to 20, the main winter sports event, the 2022 Olympic Games, will last in Beijing. Let's cheer for our athletes!

Only those who will strictly observe anti-epidemic security measures will be able to get seats in the stands. It is among them that the quota of tickets will be distributed, follows from the statement of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that foreign spectators would not be allowed to attend the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing.

The head of the planning department of the organizing committee of the Games, Li Sen, said that during the competition, all sports fields will use 100% "green" electricity.
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be completely carbon neutral. This was announced on Thursday at a press conference by the head of the planning department of the organizing committee of the Games, Li Sen.
“[For the Games] we have built low-carbon facilities, all competition venues comply with green building standards,” he said.

The representative of the organizing committee also noted that the Chinese companies PetroChina, the State Grid Corporation of the People's Republic of China and the China Three Gorges Corporation were sponsors of carbon-neutral products for the Olympics.
“Through these measures, the Beijing Winter Olympics will be completely carbon neutral,” concluded Li Sen.
Beijing 2022: for the Olympics - with three doses of vaccine
The organizers of the Beijing Winter Olympics "strongly recommend" that competitors receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine before arriving in China.
To protect against the virus, foreign fans will also not be allowed into the Olympic Games, and a final decision on the admission of local spectators to the stadiums has not yet been made.
“We are in constant communication with the International Olympic Committee, and we have reached a mutual understanding: due to the instability of the situation with COVID-19 and the spread of the new strain of Omicron around the world, we strongly recommend that all athletes and other participants in the Games get a booster vaccination before coming to China. Many countries reacted positively to the proposal and vaccinated their athletes," said Huang Chun, deputy head of the office of the epidemiological control of the organizing committee of the Games.
The National Hockey League said this week that its clubs' players would not travel to China due to the pandemic. The organizers of the Olympics expressed their regret.
